Privacy Policy
This policy explains how the operator of Get On Scene ("we", "us") collects, uses and protects personal information in Get On Scene. It follows Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
1. What we collect
- Account: your name, email address, a scrambled (hashed) version of your password, when you joined, and whether you agreed to location use.
- Location: your device's location while Get On Scene is open, used to find incidents and warnings near you. We keep your latest position in memory to run the service. We don't keep a history of where you've been.
- Plan and payments: your plan status, trial and renewal dates, and the customer and subscription IDs from Stripe. Card details go straight to Stripe and never reach us.
- Notifications: if you turn them on, the technical address your phone's browser gives us for sending you notifications.
- On your device: Get On Scene saves your sign-in and settings (like your crash range) in your browser's local storage. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
- Technical logs: basic server logs (like errors and times) to keep Get On Scene running and secure.
2. Why we use it
- To run Get On Scene: show incidents and weather warnings near you, and send you notifications you turned on.
- To manage your account and subscription, including password resets and billing emails.
- To keep Get On Scene secure and prevent misuse.
- To improve Get On Scene, using combined statistics that don't identify you.
We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
3. Who sees it
- Service providers that run Get On Scene for us, under contracts that protect your information: Stripe (payments), our hosting provider, our email provider (password resets), and the browser companies' notification services (Google, Apple, Mozilla) if you turn notifications on.
- Legal reasons: if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
Some of these providers may store information outside Canada, for example in the United States, where it's subject to local laws.
4. Your consent and choices
- You agree to location use when you create your account. You can turn off location in your device settings at any time, but Get On Scene can't find incidents near you without it.
- Turn weather notifications on or off in your profile.
5. How long we keep it
- Your live location: only your latest position, in memory, while you're signed on.
- Incident history and statistics: up to 90 days. These are about incidents, not about you.
- Your account: until you delete it. When you delete your account, we remove your profile, sign-ins and notification settings. Stripe keeps payment records as the law requires.
6. Security
Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text. Connections use encryption (https). Reset links expire after an hour and work once. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password you don't use anywhere else.
7. Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we have about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent, subject to legal limits. You can change your name and password and delete your account yourself from your profile. For anything else, contact us below. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).
8. Children
Get On Scene is for adults working in towing and roadside assistance. It's not meant for anyone under 18.
9. Changes
We'll post any update here and change the date above. If a change is important, we'll also tell you by email or in the app.
10. Contact - Privacy Officer
